Genie

During my year at IBM, I worked on Genie, an AI product that is designed to support design thinking workshops. The goal was to help teams capture ideas faster and keep discussions flowing without losing creative momentum.

Workshops often lose focus when people switch between tools or manage too much input. The challenge was to design an assistant that felt natural and helpful, enhancing creativity instead of getting in the way.Genie acts as a workshop participant, generating ideas, prompts and summaries in real time.

I designed Genie’s identity and interface following IBM’s Carbon Design System for structure and consistency. This included its icon, colours and motion design. My goal was to make the tool fast and simple to use while giving it a clear and friendly personality.

When developing the identity, I moved away from the robotic imagery often associated with AI and imagined Genie as a character emerging from a lamp. It felt more creative, warm and a little magical.
