TYPOGRAPHY + AI
Slant: For Intelligent Types
A response to the Cannes Future Lions 2025 brief by AKQA and Cannes Lions. The challenge was to connect audiences to products or services that were not possible three years ago. My idea: an AI-powered font that shows misinformation and bias, connecting to credible sources in real time.
Concept
Media bias and misinformation blur the line between fact and fiction. Headlines shape opinion not just by what they say, but how they say it. Every story carries a slant shaped by the writer, platform, and audience. The same event can be reported with varying levels of bias or outright falsehoods. SLANT uses AI to distort text dynamically, exposing bias and guiding readers to credible sources, empowering them to think more critically.
Touchpoints
All news has its slant. But perspective without accountability is just fiction. SLANT works across web, social and out-of-home. As a browser plug-in, it overlays sites with a modal showing bias percentages and AI-sourced links showing patterns, not “truth.” When installed by a site, the type distorts live, toggling modes with a side panel displaying the same data. SLANT also works as a centralised platform, comparing media narratives across sources. Digital billboards display slanted statements with QR codes linking to verified news.
